Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a smorgasbord of a film filled to the brim with old favorites and new delights. The splendid Hogwarts School sparkles with medieval majesty and mayhem, the eccentric professors inspire awe, that piquant dish of wonder peppered with dread, while tried friends and old enemies test the murky waters of adolescence.
Like your favorite haunt, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, is comfortably familiar, yet exotic and thrilling all the same. It’s the only third-time-around flick of the summer that doesn’t somehow disappoint, partly because its stellar cast is headed by beloved rogue Captain Jack Sparrow, who insists the audience have as much fun as he does.
Never has sipping a morning scotch in a slip and pair of gold heels looked more alluring. Elevating what is essentially a soap opera melodrama, Elizabeth Taylor uses her on screen presence and glamour to seduce us as well as a considerable portion of Upper Manhattan in one of her two Oscar winning performances.
This film is a perfect fit for our current culture – superb eye candy. All style and very little substance. A thriller shot like an MTV sequence, with a blaring sound track by the Chemical Brothers that varnishes it with a cool mystique that promises more than it delivers.
